This little baby of ours has already developed a few nicknames, but one of my favorites was coined by some very cool girlfriends of mine.
Now, this nickname may seem odd to most people, but I have been greatly anticipating what honorable nickname would be given to my 1st offspring.
Let’s back up about 7 years (oh my, has it been that long?!) to when I was college. There were five of us girls who really bonded during our advertising classes and working together at the school newspaper. And we were all brunettes.
So we called ourselves the Five Non-Blondes.
At some point, we thought it was necessary to give individual nicknames to each other. I was named Aunt Cricket. The others ladies are Aunt Foxhound, Aunt Aardvark, Aunt Panda, and Aunt Cobra.
Where the ‘Aunt’ part came from, I don’t recall, but it stuck.
Whenever one of us got married, the lucky husband got an Uncle nickname that we all pondered over and voted on. Over the years, we have added Uncle Meerkat, Uncle Liger, Uncle Panther. And we’re excited for the newest one, Uncle Rooster, to join the family.
All this to be said, that when we —Aunt Cricket and Uncle Meerkat— announced there’s a little critter on the way, the other Non-Blondes began brainstorming. And now we’re just waiting til the day we get to meet…..
(drumroll please)…..
Baby Squirrel.
Now every time I see a squirrel running around, it just makes this Cricket chirp with joy. And it makes me think of the movie UP and Dug, the talking dog.
SQUIRREL!
Aunt Panda & Uncle Liger are also expecting Baby Moose in March. Moose & Squirrel….meant to be said in a Russian accent, of course.
Chelsea, Erin, Jessi & Kristin……I miss you lots. Life was never dull when you were around. Not that it’s dull now, but it’s definitely quieter without your boisterous laughs.

I think all this stemmed from my Aunt Bunny. Everyone needs rich aunt names and so it began.
Miss you so much too. I’m so pumped for Baby Squirrel and Moose to enter the FNB family. Hope you are doing well!
This might be my favorite post of the year!
Oh thank you, Jessi! I remember now that it all derived from your Aunt Bunny! She’s such a wonderful inspiration.
