  1. Hot Date Night

    August 29, 2009 by Katie

It’s important in every marriage to keep going on dates with your spouse long after the wedding has come and gone (or so I’ve been told).

Unfortunately, I can’t really remember the last ‘date night’ Todd & I had—which means it’s been too long ago.

And what better summer date than to go see a baseball game with your loved one? When our old hometown baseball team, the KC Royals, came to town to play the Mariners, we scheduled a night for some fun.  After getting a deal on a pair of sweet field level seats right behind the Royals dugout, we scarfed down some hot dogs and shared a Coke. awwww….

I’m not sure if I was more excited about our seats…or the hotdog.  Sporting events are the only time I eat hotdogs (it’s a weird ‘rule’ I have), so I piled on the toppings and savored the ballpark treat.

Problem was, who do we cheer for??

Call me a traitor, but I’m a Seattle girl now, so I cheered for my Mariners.  In the end, the Royals actually won, but I didn’t care. I was just happy to have a fun, relaxing evening with my husband. We definitely need more date nights like this though. And season tickets. :)

  2. Summer’s End

    August 26, 2009 by Katie

Wow, where has the summer gone?

Life has been very busy for us— between working long days, planning for our anniversary trip, and other various activities, I look back with some sadness and realize that the summer is almost over.  (Although, I’m not too sad, because that means Europe is just that much closer and fall is my favorite season of the year.)

This past weekend, Todd’s friend Stuart came to Seattle for a long overdue visit.  While I had to work every day he was here, it gave them some time to hang out by themselves and do ‘manly stuff’ like go look at exotic cars and drink beer.

On Sunday evening, we all took the bus over to Alki Beach for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Cactus.  We lingered on the waterfront, the guys dipped their feet in the ice cold water (there may have been girly screams), and then we took the water taxi back to Seattle.

We’re currently accepting reservations for visitors from October-May. Please email me if you’re interested in staying at HarrisHouse. :)

  3. Another Year

Somebody had a birthday today….and it wasn’t me.

Somebody even baked their own birthday cake and it was yummy.

Happy Birthday to my awesome husband and best friend. Here’s to many more cakes together….

  4. Out & About

    August 14, 2009 by Katie

All is quiet in our home again, but we took advantage of our last couple of days with Mom & Dad S.

Some pics from our excursion to Alki Beach. That water was COLD!

On Sunday, we rented a ZipCar (it’s hard to transport 4 people in our 2-seater), and after church we drove north almost to Canada.  We had lunch and ice cream in Bellingham and then drove south along the coast of Bellingham bay.

You wouldn’t think this is possible, but we were in a bit of a drought here, as you can tell by the dry berry bush.  We’d been without rain for about 2 months, but thankfully we got some last night.  Yes, I still get excited when it rains here.

On Monday, I took Dad & Mom kayaking through Portage Bay to the Arboretum.  If you come to visit Seattle, renting a kayak is one of my top recommendations of things to do.

Thanks for a wonderful time, can’t wait til you come visit again!

  5. Special Guests

    August 9, 2009 by Katie

We’ve been busy hosting MY favorite guests (not to lessen the enjoyment of any of our other former and future guests, but….), Mom & Dad.  Their almost regular visitors, so I’m always in search of new things to do while they’re here.  But sometimes the old stuff is good too.

After breakfast on the roof, we spent some of the afternoon at Pike Place Market : No matter how many times you visit Seattle, there’s always something different at the Market. And the people watching alone is enough to entertain.

Columbia Tower : The tallest building in Seattle– it’s kind of a secret tourist spot compared to the popular Space Needle, but the entry fee is much cheaper (only $5), the views are much higher and better.

South Lake Union Block Party : our neighborhood yearly get together.  Food, music, contests, burger contest, etc.

I worked yesterday, so we enjoyed some time at Alki Beach in the evening, and today we’re heading north for a scenic drive.  More pics to come!
