  1. Casey at Bat

    July 15, 2009 by Todd

When I first moved to Kansas City as a kid, I was big into baseball. In fact, HUGE into baseball. I played on a little league team (albeit I was never very good). I collected baseball cards. I went to Royals games. I was even in the Bo Jackson fan club.

At some point in my late pre-teen years, I kind of fell out of it. George Brett retired, Bo Jackson got hurt and gave up baseball, and the Royals were, well, not very good. So the last game I went to was probably in the early 90s. But when Drew mentioned that he was thinking about going to the game, I got excited. Why? They’re my home town team. Sure, they may not be very good ( just look at the standings ), but there’s a certain allure about them. You get the feeling at any point, these young guys could band together and put on a show.

While Katie has girl’s night, I met up with Drew & SG and we all went out to the game. I’ve never tailgated before at a Royals game, but we had a blast. I met one of the other groomsmen Sean, & his fiance, and just hung out with the families.

“Snapping” bottle caps across the busy street. I found that I was rather lacking in this skill.

By the time we made it into the stadium, the first inning had just started and we were already behind. Pretty telling for the rest of the game. One thing I don’t miss out here in Seattle is the hot midwest summers (beyond the fact I had forgotten to bring back shorts…).

At this point, we got Drew and SG on the Kiss cam, so the cameraman came over.

At this point, Slugger came over and sat on SG’s lap. We have a feeling he was trying to get a bit more.

You can see we didn’t quite win, but honestly, it really didn’t matter; we all had an absolute blast.
