  1. It’s About Time

    July 6, 2009 by Katie

    Our Kansas City recap begins.  With so many people we saw and things we did, we’re gonna have to break this down into several posts throughout the coming week(s).  Lots of pictures ahead, people.

    We arrived amidst a storm late Monday night and my best friend Catherine was kind enough to pick us up from the airport and be our host for the night.

    Tuesday morning, along with our friends Drew and Sallee Gaelle (who were getting married that weekend), we took a fun roadtrip 2 hours west to revisit our college town where our lives were forever changed. *insert dramatic music here*

    So Long Saloon :  Yummy lunch with Boulevard beer.  They don’t sell it in Seattle, so it’s always a treat to have it when we come back to Kansas.  My good friend Angela, who I met our freshman year in the dorms, even drove up from Hutchinson to spend the afternoon with us.

    After shopping around Aggieville, we headed off to galavant around campus.  It was freshmen orientation day, so we got mistaken for new students a couple of times. Either we looked young or ignorant…..I’m going to go with young :)

    Nichols Hall : where Todd spent many many hours honing his computer skillz and drinking lots of Pepsi.

    Kedzie Hall : my home away from home, where I had many classes and worked at the Collegian for 3 years.  This is also technically the place where Todd and I first laid eyes upon one another when he stopped by to visit his roommate Shawn, who was also my awesome coworker.

    Who ever would’ve thought Kedzie Room 114 is where I met the love of my life?  {certainly not me!}

    1127 Thurston & ‘The Pit’ : Old college houses. We were surprised to find that they were still standing, considering they were both demolition-worthy 5 years ago.  Looks like they’ve been cleaned up a bit…on the outside.

    Kappa Kappa Gamma : Where Drew & Sallee Gaelle fell in love while she was in the sorority and he worked as a houseboy––served her breakfast each morning.  Cute story.  Much more romantic than ours, but who’s keeping track?

    Tad’s Tropical Sno : fruity shaved ice yumminess before leaving town.

    Manhattan certainly has a different feel than when we were there.  It feels bigger, less like a small town.  And it’s just not the same without all of your college friends there to enjoy it with you.  But we had a fun road trip.

    Once we got back to Kansas City, we had one very important stop to check off our list.

    Little Miss Lily : my cousin Ryan and his wife Lindsay’s 16 days-old little girl.

    Of course, we really wanted to see Ryan & Lindsay (plus Lynnie & Ehlers) too, but this was our first real meeting with our new cousin. Wish we could’ve spent more time with them, but that little girl is one busy, popular chick!

    Finally, we made it to brother Ben and sis-in-law Kim’s, our Kansas home for the week.  Not sure who was more excited to see us, Ben & Kim….or Diesel.

    And that was just Tuesday.  Stay tuned for the rest of the week’s events.
