What a day Saturday was!
I was 1 of 25,000 runners/walkers participating in the Seattle Rock N’ Roll Marathon & Half Marathon. I had an absolute blast, making it my main mission to just have fun.
The weather was *PERFECT*, I had butterflies in my stomach and the bands were rockin’.
I’ve been struggling with a knee injury for the past 2 1/2 months, so I have been praying and praying that I would just be able to endure the pain, take my time and have periodic walking breaks, and just finish the marathon without leaving in an ambulance.
With all my anxieties and uncertainties concerning my knee injury, an amazing thing happened during my marathon…
Miraculously, I had ZERO knee pain during the 26.2 miles. That’s right, ZERO. I still took periodic walk breaks to keep the pain away and especially towards the end when my leg muscles were screaming at me to be done. But thank you, God, for allowing me to enjoy this wonderful event and push the physical limits of my body (within reason). And thank you to all of you that have been praying for me too, I know this didn’t happen ‘just because’.
I have to brag that Todd was an awesome supporter throughout all of my training, my injuries and my tears, but especially during the marathon. It’s an amazing boost of energy just to see someone you know along the route. He did his best to see me every few miles wherever spectators were allowed. Thanks, babe!
The stretch along Lake Washington was my favorite part, and I just loved hearing people around me ‘oooh’ and ‘aahh’ over how pretty Seattle is–there was even a bald eagle hanging out in the trees watching us run by. (Those happy feelings seemed to dissipate as the miles increased and we ran on the highways, but for awhile, it was awesome).
Our friend Aubrey ran her first half marathon!!
Entering the home stretch, and feeling pretty good~
Success! I finished in 4 hours, 12 minutes. A PR for me
Congratulations Aubrey on your first half marathon finish!!!
I won’t completely sugarcoat this event, because while I had fun and finished uninjured, it was HARD. The last 10 miles of the course were tough, but I pushed my body and felt the reward at the end. It’ll be awhile before I run my next marathon, but I’ll definitely be doing this one again.
