  1. Learning to appreciate the small things

    January 14, 2009 by Todd

For most people, owning a convertible in a city where we only get 58 clear days a year doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. And I’d probably agree with you; if my car came in a standard hard top I’d have probably gotten it instead — assuming it was cheaper, of course.

But living in Seattle, you learn to appreciate the days that it doesn’t rain, especially during the winter months. In January, most places at our latitude are lucky to not be freezing. We’re blessed, though, due to being so close to the coast and having the ocean warm us up; most days in the winter have us with lows in the mid 30s and highs in the upper 40s. And today was no different than normal; it was about 40 degrees this morning. The days that I drive, I appreciate these “wonderful” days even more. So when I walked out to my car this morning and noticed that I could actually see a little blue above me, I decided that I would drive to work with the top down.

Sure, sitting in traffic this morning — which happened to be especially brutal today, taking me about an hour to travel the 10 miles to work — I might have looked a little crazy. All the other convertibles that I passed had their tops up. But not me. It was wonderful. Okay, I’ll confess that I was just a *bit* cold once I got going above 5 mph. And the blue sky went back to a solid gray canopy. But none of that mattered. I got to enjoy the open air that a convertible provides.

I’d end this saying something like “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” or something else equally cliché, but I think the important thing is just to find ways to enjoy your day. Sitting in traffic for the better part of an hour is completely optional. (But it can be fun.)

  2. Weekend Visitors

    January 12, 2009 by Katie

Our friends Dallas and Meridith came to visit us for a few days.  They flew in from Denver on Thursday and we met our Seattle friends Ryan and Aubrey out for a late meal and drinks.  Dallas and Ryan were both groomsmen in our wedding so we were glad to get everyone together again.

Friday was spent being tourists. We walked to the Space Needle, rode the Monorail downtown, went to Pike Place Market, rode the ferry to Bainbridge Island and finished out the evening enjoying some wine and games together.

Saturday was a lazy day of walking around Capitol Hill, visiting the Ferrari & Maserati dealership, and reliving college memories at Pita Pit.

Dallas & Todd met in the K-State Motorsports Club, so it’s a guarantee that when they’re together, the focus is cars, cars, cars.  A little-known fact is that I knew Dal & Mer from advertising classes at K-State before I even met Todd.  It really is a small, small world afterall.

We enjoyed the time we got to spend with them, but it seems like they were leaving for the airport before we knew it.  We’re already looking forward to taking a trip to Denver to visit them.  Maybe then I can get some good snow skiing in :)

  3. Delightful Delivery

    January 7, 2009 by Katie

We had a very special delivery today:

A 9-pack of individual cheesecakes from our favorite little shop in Seattle — The Confectional.  It’s a hidden little gem at Pike Place Market, many locals don’t even know about it.

    Deliciousness!

If you come visit Seattle, this is one place we’ll make sure and take you to.  During the summer, we would stop by a couple times a month and pick out a little treat (or two) to take home and enjoy.  We came to our senses and realized that wasn’t too good for our health, so we’ve cut back a bit and only go when guests are here or they have a special seasonal flavor.

    yummy yummy

     Pictured L to R:

Caramel, Cookies & Mint Chocolate, Mexican Chocolate

Lemon White Chocolate, Kahlua White Chocolate, Peanut Butter & Chocolate

Raspberry White Chocolate, Quadruple Chocolate, Triple Berry (my absolute  favorite!)

My mouth is watering just thinking of eating one.  But I should be good and wait until Todd gets home.

Somebody knows us too well.  (thanks Cat!)

  4. Katie + Todd

    January 6, 2009 by Katie

Before I sort through our nearly 2,000 wedding pictures and overload you with images (that many of you have probably already seen), I wanted to share this blog post from our absolutely wonderful wedding photographers, Mike & Christine.  I cannot fully describe how great they were to work with or how pleased we were with their photography, so I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

It always feels nice when someone other than yourself notices all the little details and hard work you put into something you care deeply about.

  5. Greetings!

Welcome to our blog!  Being miles away from many of our family and friends (that’s you, if you’re reading this), we wanted to make it easier to share about what’s been going on in our lives.  The exciting. The mundane.  Our travels.  Our life in the city we now call home…Seattle.
